Not really related to this bug, but...ePSXe for Linux is slightly outdated compared to Windoze version. Why don't you try psx emulator instead ('psx' from AUR)? It's much simpler and pretty stable.
If you can't get the linux version running, you may want to consider running the windows version of epsxe through wine. It is a newer version and might run better anyway. It works perfectly in wine-- for me it runs much better and faster though wine then on windows. I dual-boot, so I've tried both. The plugins I use are gpupeteogl for graphics, the built in sound plugin, and the built in WNT/W2K core for cdrom.
You could also try pcsx-df (in the main repo) or psx (in AUR). PCSX-df is similiar to ePSXe with the plugin based system, and supports nice 3D rendering with antialias and such. pSX is trying to be more true to the real thing and it looks (as bad) as the PlayStation does/did.
After changing my PSX BIOS and messing with the video settings, I can now run games from ISOs. However, I can't get any sound whatsoever. Sound works perfectly in PCSX (which is less stable than ePSXe for me, so I'd rather not use it), but I can't get anything in ePSXe. My sound plugin is the epsxe-plugin-spu-alsa-1.9-1 package from the link in my first post. The plugin tests out perfectly. Despite that, I get the following error when I open an ISO or start the BIOS:
To be honest I have no idea, I run a custom kernel with ALSA OSS emulation and I've never touched anything except alsamixer to get both ALSA/OSS working. I'm going to assume the Arch stock kernel also has ALSA OSS emulation enabled so perhaps you need to load some extra module?
Well, when I don't have anything else running, mplayer works fine with OSS output, but ePSXe still has no sound. It gives me the same error. I also have alsa-oss installed, but that doesn't seem to be helping.
I don't think I can help more, as far as I know ePSXe was only released as a 32-bit compiled version and I'm running 64-bit. Try to get in contact with the person running that repo, he/she might be able to figure out the problem.
To use an emulation you need a rom/ISO to run on it. As you mentioned on your post, you want to play the ps1 games. You need to get the playstation 1 emulation called ePSXe. Download ePSXe 1.5.2 (DO NOT download 1.6. It freezes the final fantasy games). After you download the ps1 emulation, you need to find some plugins (if the emulation does not have some with it) and the ps1 BIOS. The plugins emulate different parts of the ps1 system so they can work on the computer. The graphic plugin is for graphics, other is for emulating music, other for making the keybord work as the controller etc.The bios files is absolutly necessary or the emulation wont run your games.
Then you need an ISO or a Ps1 CD. I would recomend you to get an ISO as i tested them myself and they work fine (the ones ill give u a link for). An ISO in fact contains all the information taken by a cd into one single file. After you download the ISO, you run it with the ePSXe 1.5.2 and the game should start.
Playstation 2 emulations are still in development. They can run final fantasy x but they are very slow and the game is not full playable (it crashes some time after you start) so i think you would waste your time trying to play it on pc. https://sites.google.com/view/yaesu-fth2005-service-manual-
